The Illinois House of Representatives has just voted to pass a same-sex marriage bill, making Illinois the 15th state in the nation to legalize marriage equality.
The Senate has already passed the marriage bill once and says they are ready to act TODAY to move the bill along, and Gov. Pat Quinn is a strong supporter of marriage equality. If all goes accordingly, marriage equality will go into effect June 1, 2014.
Fellow Illinoisans: WE DID IT. I don’t know when or to whom, but one day, I’m going to be legally married in the state I love most. And that’s why I’m going to spend the next few minutes crying.
In which kids ages 5-13 watch videos of same-sex marriage proposals and react accordingly. These kids are so much smarter and more mature than half the people we elect to run our country — even the ones who admit that they aren’t used to seeing same-sex relationships say that their own opinions shouldn’t get in the way of other people’s rights. (Plus, they’re out-of-this-world cute.) Oops I’m crying. (via the Huffington Post)
